Is PlayStation Plus A Good Deal? My View

As you may or may not know as of this week Playstation plus has been released on the Playstation network.

Playstation plus is a premium service that you can subscribe to similar to xbox live gold. If you want to find out more i recommend that you read the blog posts on the official Playstation blogs. which can be found

Now there has been some questions as to weather its worth the cost or not. I personally think it is as do some of my friends however some people don’t see the value in it which is fair enough.

Now i came across a very interesting ongoing article on IGN which you can find linked to below

Is PlayStation Plus A Good Deal? – PS3 Feature at IGN.

It asks the question Is Playstation Plus a good deal? And goes on to say that two of the Playstation writers Greg Miller and Colin Moriarty will keep a list of what they spend/save using Playstation plus over the year seeing at the end how much each one saves or loses out having Payed for the year subscription.

Now i think this is an awesome idea and will really help people decide whether its for them or not so i thought that i would also try and do the same.

So following the rules they have set out.

For the next year, IGN PlayStation Executive Editor Greg Miller and IGN Guides Guru Colin Moriarty will track their PlayStation Plus PlayStation Network purchases every Wednesday. If they buy a full price game, it won’t be logged here. On the chalkboards below, we’ll track what the “free” content would have cost them as well as the discounts they’re receiving. Now, these figures will only include new stuff that the boys have downloaded. If they already own a piece of content, it won’t be included just because it has been discounted or marked as free. This is strictly what they’ve downloaded under the PlayStation Plus umbrella to date.

I will trace how much i actually save assuming that i actually save anything.

So this is how it stacks so far after week one.

All price are from the UK store and in Pounds and pence (£)

Gran Turismo 5

Now im a pretty big racing game fan and in my opinion you just cant beat the gran turismo series and I have been eagerly waiting for the next installment GT5 for a long time.

Seems the wait will be well worth it.  The E3 videos looked absolutely beautiful

Information has been released that makes me even more excited about this game. And i quote

Gran Turismo 5 will feature weather effects, stunt arenas, kart racing and – most excitingly – a track editor according to comments by Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony Worldwide Studios.

“Not only will Gran Turismo 5 deliver an even more comprehensive set of cars and courses than gamers saw with previous iterations, it will also feature new game-enhancing graphical effects such as damage, night racing and weather,” Yoshida told the official PlayStation site.

“These innovations are twinned with the option to join millions of like-minded individuals globally within the Gran Turismo community and to find a driving experience to suit,” he continued, “Whether that is taking on the Top Gear test track, chucking cars around stunt arenas, go-karting, creating and sharing your own track or intense head-to-head races. Who, where and what to drive is completely down to the individual.”…………

Wow!

Microsoft’s kinect

Just seen an article in the guardian that the headline stating “wave hello to Microsoft’s Kinect worlds first hands free gaming device” *

The seem to be ignoring the prices of tech that preceded it. The technology as i see it is nothing really very new. Sony for instance had the eye toy years ago on the ps2 which then evolved to the playstation eye both of which do a simular job to some extent and I dare say the pc had done that sort of stuff even before that.

Kinect may be the next step in the technology and may well have some interesting functionality although I personally am yet to be convinced of this but I really don’t see it as the be and end all, I like something to hold when I’m playing a game. I guess I could be wrong but I don’t think its going to be the next big thing time will tell
